2023

100 tonnes of fruit picked in a condensed harvest and all Wrekin varieties made on-site.

Growing Season

An unsettled La Nina weather pattern provided a trying spring and early summer of wet and humid growing conditions. Thankfully we welcomed back overseas staff after restrictions from Covid allowing us to keep on top of our canopy management.

Then in the middle of February after escaping virtually unscathed from Cyclone Gabrielle (unlike many of our friends in the North Island) we experienced a magical period of weather through to harvest. Cool nights, sometimes bordering on frosts, ensured beautiful acid retention and optimal flavour development.

2023 will be remembered as being a relatively condensed vintage of amazing fruit and the first time all the varieties for The Wrekin label were vinified on site through our own winery.

Harvest

Harvest started on the 16th of March and the last pick was on the 12th April. It was a condensed season with only 22 days of picking and excluding the last little pick was only 23 days from first to last pick including 13 consecutive days.
