  • Sam Kim

"Beautifully poised and inviting, the wine shows sweet cherry, floral, olive, game, and toasted almond characters. The palate displays excellent weight and beautifully rounded mouthfeel, splendidly supported by layers of polished tannins, making it sturdy yet plush and lingering. At its best now to 2034.""

The 2020 Needle’s Eye is a representation of all clones and soil profiles on the vineyard taken from the all 5 pinot blocks. The elevated blocks lie on undisturbed clay soils overlying greywacke parent rock, while lower blocks are planted on wind-deposited, loess soils. Vine age approx 18 years.

2020 was the first certified organic (Biogro 5732) vintage, with the vineyard under biodynamic practices since 2017.

Under natural cork, the wine continues to age well and is ready to serve or cellar.

    Soil

Elevated blocks of clay loam, and loess soil on lower slopes. Predominantly north facing.
