The first year of the new on-site gravity flow winery and a record weight Chenin Blanc bunch.
Journal
Growing Season
Winter saw heavy, extended periods of rain with little sunshine as we came into the growing season. It was a vibrant spring with excellent growth, followed by good fruit set. The Marlborough weather pulled together in the end, producing very intriguing wines for this vintage.
Harvest
Harvest started on the 11th of March and the last pick was on the 11th April (late harvest chenin blanc was picked on the 20th April).
This was the first year we processed all of our own Pinot Noir through the new winery, including a few basket press loads of chardonnay and chenin blanc too. We too had a record 801g bunch of chenin blanc found by Kate Guthrie and managed to avoid Covid in the team as many stayed on-site for the entire harvest.
Picking dates:
Chardonnay: 15th March to the 29th March
Chenin Blanc: 31st March to the 11th of April
Pinot Noir: 11th March to the 1st of April
